In Cambodia it's common to call limes lemons, and lemons limes in English (not sure about French). I was told that lemons weren't common so when foreigners asked for lemons, limes were used and the word stuck. To distinguish actual lemons they became limes.
Not sure if this is apocryphal or what.

When I moved to Austria (from near Ithaca,NY), I was more than a little horrified there were no screens on the window. Quickly came to realize they weren't necessary, which just seemed weird.

Those are snap layouts for snap windows. They can appear near the top of the screen when dragging a window, or when hovering over the maximize icon on a window toolbar. You can change the behavior or disable it in the Windows 11 (or 10) Settings->System->Multitasking.

The FancyZones or Workspaces utilities that are part of Microsoft PowerToys might be able to do what you need.
