Entering a church for the first time, not knowing what (if any) welcome awaits you . . . calls for a welcome as least as generous as this.
God, you welcomed even people like us. May we extend that same welcome to all who risk walking in the door where we claim to represent Your love.

Contradiction of the Day:

FBI Director Kash Patel recently posted on X: “Happy Diwali”—

Responses on X included this:

"Dude we are a Christian nation. Assimilate or leave.”

On every level, that contradicts the faith (and the country) that I hold dear.

Child care workers, healthcare workers, teachers, in-home or nursing home caregivers--anyone at all whose work is to care for other people--are among the lowest paid and least protected workers in our economy.

Think about that.

Today would have been the 52nd year since Jennifer and I said our wedding vows (and kept them, through the almost-33 years of our life together). She did, however, have to deal with my . . . behavior, illustrated here.

This, then, is a "Jenniversary!"

At the end of a turbulent week where emotions ran raw across the land . . . perhaps a moment of peace would help.

Readers may wonder if "Firestorm" is a critique of our current president. It's not. Instead, it's a fresh take on the power of a president to serve the nation--or do great harm that gathers up the innocent, including his own family.
September 9, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Because "Firestorm" explores the fallout of a deeply flawed president, it's tempting to think it's about the current one. No comparison intended; it was mostly written by 2010: a story about power, and about when the truth can be costly for the innocent. At Barnes & Noble, Amazon, most bookstores.

Does anyone have information on the current status of the unhoused, who were moved involuntarily out of D.C.?

I struggled to describe my own book. Accountability? Abuse of power? Courage? Accurate--but I finally realized: to summarize the core question in "Firestorm:" Do you tell the truth, when you know that it will hurt you--and the people you love the most? Available from most booksellers now.

Imagine:
Your life is upended when you learn something about the President of the United States that could bring him down. He knows that you know, knows where you are, and will stop at nothing to silence you.

"Firestorm" is now available on Amazon and wherever books are sold.

You’re on vacation, enjoying the warmth of the sun—
until you learn something about the President,
something that could bring him down.
What’s worse: he knows that you know.
And he will stop at nothing to silence you.
"Firestorm;" now available on Amazon, soon on other platforms.

If you’ve read “Fifty-Three Weeks,” you may anticipate a similar tone in “Firestorm.” The difference is stark.

But the heart of story is accountability, faith, and hope: ordinary people carry an extraordinary burden, and rise to the challenge. In “Firestorm” there are a few villains; many heroes.

UPDATE:

"Firestorm" is now available on Amazon, both in paperback and ebook.

You probably can’t see it, but I’m holding my breath.

This morning, my publisher and I finalized the details, and placed the order for printing the first run of “Firestorm.”

I’m excited. And nervous. After all, fifteen days is a long time to hold my breath.

While the current news can be troubling . . . it wasn't much better in November, 1984.

Being a minister, I feel an obligation to post this public warning: To minimize risk, do not sit in the front row.

Full disclosure: I haven't exploded. Yet.

(From an old dusty file I was cleaning out.)

Another quote from the soon-published "Firestorm:"
. “Look over there . . .” He pointed to the left side of the screen showing the perimeter of the property. Samantha’s mouth dropped open.
“I don’t believe it.”
“Shall I play it again, Sam?”

The next time you see me, I'll have the "Firestorm" Proof copy in my hands.
This is getting serious.

A photo taken on a hike around Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe in 2006. This tree thrives in an unlikely--literally hard--place (a witness that we too can thrive in our less-than-inviting political environment).
