and my immediate response is that i can’t imagine a future where i can engage with the question of whether ai is human because what is far more material is the amount of people with material motives to convince me that is true. i’ll always be asking “why do you *want* me to believe ai is smart?”

and we just don’t live in a world where people’s lives have agreed upon, intrinsic value independent of what they can do for others (because if we did, we wouldn’t be using ai for such things in the first place). we have seen what happens to people who are deemed unnecessary and it’s v bad

at the end of the day, i’m asking what are we ultimately using this tech to do? and i think, like, “write me an essay” feels less like an existential threat bc the thing being circumvented is your own ability. but the other stuff is like… if needing others is obsolete, then so is others needing you

seeing people use ai to circumvent building relationships with others has ironically made me more tolerant of other uses. i don’t think it’s good to use ai to check spelling but it’s hard to care when people use ai to arrange their songs, make art for art for their albums, or be their therapist
