Assuming you're in the USA, it's really easy to become the ham radio operator everyone wants to be friends with. HT radios are dirt cheap (under $50), but maybe get one quick before tariffs drive the prices up.

Technician's license is easy as hell to get too.

That said, I'm pretty sure this is the best possible way I could have found out Canada did the right thing in their election.
