Made the mistake of looking at the data behind Treasury's long-term briefing. It was Hooton's fault. I wanted to check if the statement quoted below was true... It wasn't 😲. But, jeez, these Treasury ghouls are dangerous. [🧵1/n]

The Govt have crashed the economy and kicked thousands of young people out of work. Now they're coming for their meagre benefits - to force them into selling their labour cheap to slave masters in the gig economy (or piling into debt for tertiary education). It is disgusting.

Makes perfect sense. Given the settings since the 1970s, Govt can only reduce debt (run surpluses) if
(a) private sector is increasing debt *significantly*
(b) we run large current account surpluses with the rest of the world, or
(c) kiwis spend down their savings
There's zero chance of (b) or (c).

Turns out objections to Te Reo signage was never about legibility or safety ....
Distracting, unreadable and dangerous signage on the right coming to over 150 school communities across Auckland to replace the sign on the left.

The Green Party budget proposes a *reduction* in income tax.
More than 90% of income earners would pay less tax than currently.
Everyone would benefit from massive increase in services like free primary health care, free public early childhood education, and so much more.

Game changing. Let's explore why a jobs guarantee is fabulous social *and* economic policy.
Quick reminder that making sure kiwis have jobs is not that radical. NZ Govt thru the mid-20th century was scared witless if a few folks (well, white men) were unemployed. See image 2 (1960 Stats NZ) [🧵 1/n]
