My father is dead and everything is worse now.
I watched I Like Me, the documentary about John Candy. It was lovely. I might have cried a little.

Choose 20 paintings that have stayed with you or influenced you — one painting per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just paintings.

Newest grief update and admission: I ordered a new cabinet with pop-out garbage can for the kitchen, but now I don’t want to put it in because every time my old motion sensor can opens on its own, I pretend it’s my dad hanging around and triggering the thing.

A lot of work. A lot left to do.

Yesterday, HSI and MPD set up a checkpoint on Rhode Island Ave in DC. Neighbors stood on either end, holding signs saying “LA MIGRA ADELATE.”

As HSI and MPD started to pack it up, residents told them, “we don’t think you’re good Americans” and “fuck you guys, go home.”

Goodbye, Terence Stamp…you were in many great films, but this horror movie will forever live rent-free in my head. You will be missed.

Getting followed by a lot of AI bots - my lack of posts must be enticing indeed.

I bought a Sigma DP2 Quattro, not really knowing what to expect, and was utterly charmed. It's a niche camera that suits me just fine.

Pet peeve: people who paint monarch butterflies but get the bodies all wrong because they're so caught up in the wings.

Taken at Meow Wolf Santa Fe, an easy place to take a photo or five hundred.

Bartlett hung out with me on my sick day while I dealt with worry, panic, and grief. Cats are a treasure to humanity.

Another fun thing about grief is the way it packs its bags and leaves for weeks only to return, smiling, with a fresh bouquet of bullshit for me to work through.

And even *another* older image, because I love that green and as far as I know, you only get it in Louisiana, as far as the U.S. is concerned. Well, I love that and the basking chonks.

Another older picture because I love how many living creatures are in it

This is so beautiful. A friend of mine once found an escapee octopus on the side of PCH. After some misadventures including a bus or two, he knocked at the locked doors of Aquarium of the Pacific. Someone was there. And later, when he would visit her, she reached out a little tentacle to him. ❤️
My pet gar that I donated to Shedd Aquarium would recognize me and swim over to say hi when I visited her exhibit ❤️🐠

A rare hybrid gar, I raised her since she was 2 inches long, and had to re-home her when I moved to Chicago. I was happy I could visit her in her new home!

These are the endpages for the book of folktales I just ordered. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as an outrageously good illustrator, Mirko Hanak in this case.
