Oh arse. I was going to send someone a copy of my dissertation for an upcoming podcast. Belatedly realised I don't have a copy because I wrote it on University computers when my laptop died... and never sent myself a copy.

So I arranged to work from home just to save a few bus fares as things are very tight this month... and my internet goes down. Four years I've lived here and it's never gone down before.

I saw a "shooting star" yesterday morning. Before I'd moved to Selsey I'd never seen one but since then I'm up to 4 or 5. Perhaps I just spend more time looking at the sky now.

here's the thing about doing the hard work of teaching students how to write: when it comes time for some of them to write thank you notes, they are incredibly moving and beautiful.

This book is 85 years old. That's nothing in terms of antiquity but I think it's the oldest thing we own now. I had various older items that were left behind to a former life.

I'm no expert but I've had a fondness for #DoctorWho since c1977. c1981 I had this book and was part way through when my brother donated it to a jumble sale. Many years later by describing the prologue to @moogthedog.bsky.social he correctly identified the book and I bought a copy.

Apparently I was already interested in History when my mum gave me this for Christmas 1983. The latest reference in it is 1980, which wasn't that long ago then but is now a very upsetting 44 years ago.
