Yeah, it surprised me, too.

MSM coverage is a giant issue, since ledes and headlines create first/most lasting impressions. Traditional writing lays out what's said, then perspective. Absolutely fine in traditional politics, but disaster in Trumpville. Wrote this note to WSJ reporter covering Trump's tweet today:

We need to address the coverage of this stuff directly with the reporters who are missing opportunities to be direct and factual. Too much dictation, not enough journalism. Today's WSJ article on the Trump tweet was abysmal, as were several others. I sent this to the WSJ reporter:

We have to address reporters directly on this, IMO. I sent this note today to the reporter at the WSJ who simply took dictation from Trump's tweet rather than writing a real story. Trying to be respectful and make it solely about the journalism, just the facts. Long road ahead.

We have to take this to the msm reporters who are taking dictation on Trump tweets instead of doing journalism. They have serious numbers of followers both online and IRL and they are letting us all down in the truth/perspective/accountability space. My note to WSJ writer today about Trump's post.

All of us posting online is swell, but we really need to make our case with the reporters--not editors--who are writing about this administration. Too much taking dictation and getting around to the facts...eventually. My note this morning to WSJ writer about his "Dictator Zelensky" story.
February 19, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Correct, but we have to talk directly to individual writers about these issues. I just sent this to the WSJ reporter who took dictation when Trump was blasting Zelensky rather than actually reporting on the situation.

But first we report the lie and then we get around, much later, to the truth. I'm taking this issue directly to the reporters writing the "first draft of history," because they have a much bigger audience than most of us online.

This re WSJ coverage today of Trump's post:

I'm taking these issues directly to the reporters at mainstream media, hoping to, um, raise their consciousness about what's missing in coverage. This one today in response to the Wall Street Journal's reporting on Trump's latest screed.

I'm reaching out directly to reporters about the way they cover this stuff, focusing on the same points an actual editor might make if anyone had a real editor anymore.

Coverage in the msm makes it worse. Just wrote this note to writer at Wall Street Journal about his story. Suggest we all go directly to the reporters, not letters to editor or whatever, with serious journalistic integrity comments.

I just sent this to an AP reporter and I would encourage others to send the same or similar texts to every major media writer/editor who refers to DOGE as a government entity.

DOGE operates with a cloak of credibility given by its unfortunate naming, much like the Ministry of Truth.
