Something critical I remembered during this replay is that you really have to farm for UFOs when you can.

Leave 8 or more invaders on the screen, and they’ll keep coming out. Regardless of how many you manage to hit, the fifth one will always drop a Life Recovery (+2 shields).

Okay, okay…getting respectable.

The real secret about this game’s difficulty is that Waves 3-4 (/30) are among the hardest in the game. These introduce:

*Diagonal bullets
*Homing shots (x2 damage to you)
*Invaders not all moving in the same direction
*Gravity trap UFOs

Aside from the first one, these rarely all show up again…

I’ve beaten Space Invaders 90/91 before. Currently trying again after some years. I love/hate this game so much.

I’m just thankful they didn’t go with either of these since they both could’ve been on the table. Though shame on whoever ultimately decided Alex Kidd deserved a U.S. release.

Check and mate!

Big Bear (RIP) would trounce them both, thanks in part to its Fatal Fury blood.

But overall, it’s a winner: The combat is fun, the puzzle solving is mostly fun, and the bosses get nutty in that great Treasure fashion. A must-play for Treasure fans and Landstalker sickos alike.

A few of the puzzles can be absolute bears in terms of precise positioning, but it’s also weirdly forgiving to some degree, and it always lets you exit a room to reset your progress.

It has a few other weird quirks, like the inability to drop items and gold being borderline useless…

But it does take a very unexpected turn into weirdness around Act III, which I appreciated. And it does a lot of fun things both with polygons and nods to the team’s obvious love of certain western CRPGs and the like (there are references to Ultima, Wizardry, Gauntlet, and even Dragon’s Lair)…

And that’s a wrap on Light Crusader on the Genesis. Took me around 8 hours.

Unlike every other Treasure game on the platform, it really doesn’t have that much of a hook, beyond maybe its magic combo system (which is honestly a bit too convoluted for my tastes and mostly nonessential)….

Late night thought: You ever think about how Atari Games (the arcade Atari) was responsible for almost 20% of the total library for the Atari Corp (the consumer Atari) Lynx and almost 0% of the library for the Jaguar? I wonder what the hell happened there.

In the middle of my first-ever viewing of OG Gundam (currently on E11).

Poor thing: She took such a hard fall she turned blonde.

Glad to finally meet an NPC asking the important questions.

Turns out you’re not the only one!
November 16, 2025 at 3:50 AM
Probably just cosmic coincidence, but it feels too perfect that the network wanted to rename Megatron as “Negator” at one point and then this guy wound up being part of the Beast Wars line a decade later.

TFW one burger is insufficient and the people demand MORE!
November 15, 2025 at 7:47 PM
Post the last four games you played.

This guy’s not a fan of RDJ’s performance in that one biopic he made in ‘92.

TFW the voice of Optimus Prime ghosts you at BotCon.
