These are the people who grew up trashing houses at parties and running away from the consequences. They know to get out when the party’s over, so that the only ones left are so sloppy they’ll just end up passing out on a pile of beer soaked laundry on the broken couch.

They never officially deployed in Portland and while some were caught supporting ICE despite legal blocks, they aren’t “patrolling” our streets. Not that any of that makes this any less fishy.

I was in agreement until I learned that the guardsmen volunteered for this specific deployment. My sympathies dried up quickly.

Trump would need to claim insurrection or he violates the Posse Comitatus Act. Since he couldn’t clear the much lower legal bar that justified sending Guardsmen, sending Marines would be considered an illegal order by most military brass, and would stir up a hell of a hornets nest for his admin.

The troops still aren’t in our streets, so we’ll stick with the “toothless” approach as long as it keeps working.

What a hopelessly silly attempt to compare a protest movement against authoritarianism and lack of due process to anti-democratic fundamentalist takeovers in power vacuums. “The state” expressly allows protest. It was the first order of business in our founding document.

The national guard can probably do ok, but this is ICE, who is hiring anyone racist enough to take the job and barely training them.
