My "wish list" feature — which I implemented as CSI 99/109 in a custom project a while back — to "pop" the current FG/BG color off a stack:
msg=$'\e[31mRED\e[99m'
printf "\e[34m>>>%s<<<\e[m\n" "$msg"
So both ">>>" and "<<<" would be blue, rather than "\e[0m" or "\e[39m" to reset it.

I grew up in Maryland, which has similar rules, and I decided it was more "impactful" to register as a Republican, then vote Democrat in the general election, versus always voting along party lines... (And I could always vote for a throw-away candidate in the primaries.)

I feel like this was a relic of manual typesetting machines; i.e., a thicker double-quote made it easier to hold a thinner period in place, or some such.

I'd be shocked if Phillips didn't sell programmable "Year-Round" holiday lights: Red for Valentine's Day; Green for St. Patrick's Day; Pink for Mother's Day and Easter; Red, White, and Blue for the Fourth of July; Purple for Halloween; Orange and Yellow for Thanksgiving; etc.
