When the charge gets high enough, zap!

I started building one when I was a kid but never finished it. I need to give it another shot now that I have a 3D printer and an income!

The two disks are close, but not touching, and spin in opposite directions. Their motion generates charge which collects on the foil strips. Metal brushes then collect the charge from the strips and transfer it to the Leyden jars - old fashioned, high voltage capacitors.

I didn't get a picture, so these are just illustrative pictures from online. I think they must have said, "This is a very old-timey scientific vaguely magical thing, so it more or less fits the theme." (There were two clockwork dancing toys, and the Uncle had an air of magical mystery to him).

Here's a useful sentence from etymonline: "The wenche is nat dead, but slepith." [Wycliffe, Matthew ix.24, c. 1380]

Also, childcare is a temporary cost that children grow out of, and I've seen complaints that actually many things are cheaper than they were in the past.

I haven't seen anyone disagree with the "benefits+low salary is often better than salary above the benefits threshold."

The Poverty Line is Not $140,000
A recent essay by Michael W. Green makes a very bold claim that the poverty line should not be where it is currently set — about $31,200 for a family of four — but should be much higher…

in part because we have more (safety features in cars, phones are computers/cameras). Nonetheless, minimum costs are now higher.
3. When families are dual-earning, childcare needs to be in the equation.
4. Government benefits are often less than costs incurred when crossing out of the income limit.

I'll clarify that this is normal behavior. Engines run differently when starting up and catalytic conveters need to be hot to convert CO into CO2. What amazed me is that, one, I actually didn't know catalytic converters got rid of CO (I thought it was just NOx), and two, it does a really good job!

Thanks! It was a good subject. Either very relaxed, or very scared, but it let me get as close as I wanted.
