Dang it! I knew it sounded familiar. Back to the drawing board.

By the way... the same holds true for tyrants and billionaires.

Even their fiercest Christian critics shy away from calling it a false religion. Instead, you hear them criticize specific elements of MAGA as a "distortion", but they still accept these people as fellow Christians, giving them cover to continue their atrocities.

According to Christian doctrine, if Hitler had a "mustard seed" of faith, then he's in heaven. Meanwhile, his Jewish victims who lacked faith are in hell.

All Trump, Hegseth, Noem, or Kirk had to do was quote the occasional Bible verse, and they were welcomed as tribe members.

Christianity, the religion, is at its base a doomsday cult that somehow survived beyond its expiration date. That's why it cares so little about your behavior; whether you are a saint or a monster, as long as you believe the right things, you get a ticket to heaven and the rest of the world burns.

As I watched MAGA anger and hatred sweep through the nation, I saw Christians quibbling over whether Trump was a "baby Christian", like they had quibbled over whether Creed or U2 were secretly Christian bands, and I suddenly realized just how shallow and tribal they were.

I don't think you need all the disclaimers. This hits the nail on the head. The problem with Christianity, and the reason I ultimately left, is that the vast majority (including my parents) don't care what kind of person you are, only that you profess the right doctrine.

Yeah... I lived in that district for 20 years until 6 months ago. I promise you, this will never happen in my lifetime.

The partisan divide has grown, too. The wealthiest 100 tended to give more to Republicans than to Democrats before last year. But giving to the GOP spiked in 2024, with *84%* of donations going to back Republicans or conservative PACs.

except it’s not a preschooler, it’s a grown man, and that man is also the president, and it is deeply surreal and unsettling to freefall into the gulf between words that should come out of a president’s mouth and that word coming out of a president’s mouth
