A #Roman pottery money-box, purpose-made with a slit in the top to insert your coins through. It was found in Lincoln (Britain), still with some coins inside, which date the box to at least the C4th AD - I wonder who it was who saved these coins but never got to spend them..? AncientBlueSky

This tablet is the earliest record of Alexander's victory over Darius III in 331 BC. It dates to c. 330 BC, and was written in Gaugamela by priests of Marduk. It records astronomical details that coincide with the battle, such as a lunar eclipse that foreshadowed Darius' defeat.

People can think the ancient world is distant, but finds like this bring it into clear - and colourful - focus.

The connection to Nero comes via his wife Poppaea, who was born in Pompeii, and may have convinced her husband to fund repairs after the 69 CE earthquake. This fresco portrait of the god Apollo from one of the triclinia is believed to be a likeness of Nero himself. 🏺 3/

What I verily dislike(d) the most in Latin and Greek ancient scripts is ligatures. Difficult to parse some of them.

This compilation of the most used ones is wonderful.
