Good opportunity to criticise the Prius and its hybrid technology. It came out in the 1990s at a time of strong interest in pure EVs & contributed to kill its momentum. This fence-sitting between climate and economics has delayed the rise of EVs for years as well as the broader energy transition.
Funnily enough, this very good piece calling for a "green economic populism" (by @triofrancos.bsky.social & @aldasky.bsky.social) came out just when we submitted ours on the need for "climate populism": www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/o... We are all living in the same conjuncture, I guess..
