In his defense, I too would be extremely concerned for my safety driving around DC, if I had challenged the head of Teamsters to a fistfight.

In fairness, being concerned for his safety is pretty reasonable, given he publicly challenged the head of Teamsters to a fistfight during a senate cmte hearing.

It says everything about *our* cognition and nothing about the machine’s cognition.

My go-to in these discussions is always the classic aughts IKEA lamp commercial, and how a lamp is very obviously not sentient but all it takes is a little music and lighting and camera angles and we, with our human cognitive biases, read emotions into it. youtu.be/dBqhIVyfsRg?...

Aww. Cuckoo’s Egg had such a formative impact on my early teen interest in computer systems. ❤️

Please wear a tightly-fitted N-95 or KN-95 anytime you go outside even if you think you don’t need it. If you have a stockpile left over from Covid, share them. The particulates can easily do permanent lung damage. I wish I’d known this during the San Diego fires and evacuations I lived through. 😞

I’m just trying to wrap my head around why you would park a $200k car in your basketball court, as if dents from stray balls increase its resale value.

It’s the $200k car parked next to the basketball court for me, because what your $200k car really needs is a bunch of dents from stray balls.

Our student-athletes are impressive af, if anyone can pull it off they can, but it’s asking a lot of them.

Yeah I really worry about how hard all that travel is on the athletes. It wipes out almost a week of productivity for me when I do a round trip to the other coast for work. Flight time, time zone change, inefficiency of being off routine and living out of a suitcase, all that. Idk how they do it.

We’re as confused as you are. 😅 Like the Pacific Ocean is so close to campus you could see it if it weren’t for the hills, and you’re telling me we’re in a conference named for a whole *different* ocean now? Make it make sense

I’m with whatshername—that is WILD. Generic sertraline is so cheap! It must be costing them more in paperwork to kick you off than a 6mo supply would cost.

Mini Cat Town is a 501c(3) nonprofit kitten rescue operating adoption cat cafes 5 different shopping centers across NorCal. The City of Palo Alto is evicting the new Stanford Shopping Center location due to a strained reading of “boarding” facility in zoning.

My cat could win Oscars for her roles in “nobody has fed me breakfast yet today” and “you thought I escaped out the door but actually I’ve been in this weird new hiding place you wouldn’t think is physically possible for the past hour while you mourned my death”
