Left-Liberal, interested in political ideas.

Chances are, you have debated someone like me before.
Start from the premise that if there's anything about us that rest of the world admires, the British Right despises.

It's not 100% accurate, but it's a very strong heuristic.

There's some irony in the fact that a party's opposition to FPTP may prove to be inversely related to them being its beneficiary.

I asked my wife, who has a plastic version.
She didn't have a definitive answer, but suggested a combination of cooling/heating to create expansion, and some suction somehow.

Don't know if that helps!

My favourite fact about Miliband is that at one point, every man in the country with the surname was running for the Labour leadership

I think a lot of the political bias stuff looks like "we are amazed and astonished that people who work at the BBC are people who have jobs in London or Manchester", crossed with "this point of view is very big on Twitter so it ought to also be big on the BBC"....

In solemn remembrance of the valiant fallen, I always make my dog wear a bandana.

Is it really anything more complicated than 'I want the members to make me Prime Minister'?

I'd need quite a bit more convincing that this is Bennite-esque damascene conversion.

No apology necessary!

(FPTP - First Past The Post - is the current Westminster system btw)

I really don't understand how both the Tories and Labour are totally laid back about the respective threats of the 'Jam and Jerusalem' Lib Dems, and the 'We hate Reform' Greens (to say nothing of the Nationalists).

Good to hear!
(I was being a bit sardonic, as Scotland isn't renowned for its dry weather)

Yeah, it works in Glasgow, but would people cycle in a city where it rains sometimes?

It's either Calsberg and a bacon bap, or a Lego set

Am I reading this wrong, or is someone really saying that 'raising a glass' to remember someone is unheard of?

Which one was Martin Luther King Jnr going for?
November 3, 2025 at 10:52 AM
What's your reaction, after seeing it in person?

The thing I admire the most about conservatives is how highly they value the importance of personal responsibility.
November 1, 2025 at 6:26 PM
It really isn't.

I'm asking you to compare *your* best example of socialism against *your* choice of the worst example of market based social democracy.

By any vaguely honest assessment, that's massively tilting the field in *your* favour.
November 1, 2025 at 5:16 PM
Market-based social democracy does not require the invasion of Iraq 🙄

All I'm asking for is a vaguely evidence-backed argument as to why socialism has a better record of delivering for the people than market-based social democracy.

Instead, I just get whatabboutery about right-wing colonialism.

So, no actual answer from you then?

Understood.

Covered elsewhere - purely due to the global price of fossil fuel borne of capitalism.

There is nothing there to demonstrate why socialism is better than market social democracy
