Thinking about Prince Jones as we approach the 25th anniversary of his death. He was shot by a police officer who followed him through three jurisdictions all because his mother’s name was on the vehicle registration. Prince was truly a Prince. He should still be here. 9/1/2000. #PrinceJones

This will impact everyone (both citizens AND immigrants) in the U.S.
So much is keeping us up at night—but one of the most chilling? DOGE harvesting personal data under the guise of “efficiency.” This is not reform. It’s a play to build the infrastructure of surveillance capitalism and authoritarian tech governance.

Here’s All the Health and Human Services Data DOGE Has Access To
Elon Musk's DOGE has access to 19 sensitive systems at HHS. In at least one instance, it appears that access was granted without the proper security training.

Science is important! Let’s stand by those doing the work because we all benefit!
Keep up the pressure!

The unexpected elimination of funding for the decades-long research project focused on women's health shocked scientists. They were heartened by the quick restoration of support.

Time to reframe the thinking. Instead of “who will be our David to their Goliath,” think “how can *I* be A David to their Goliath?” We need a lot more Davids right now.

Today is a no good horrible very bad day for science.

Different types of preferred names:

Nicknames and other more casual versions of formal names

Different versions of generational names (e.g., going by a middle name when father goes by the first name)

Names parents call children from birth, even though the legal name is different

NIH announces it is moving all grant review to the Center for Scientific Review. CSR already handled most, but this pulls around a quarter of study sections out of the individual institutes and centers.

One source told me they think they'll use this as part of the RIFs.
NIH centralizes peer review to improve efficiency and strengthen integrity
The proposed approach is expected to save more than $65 million annually.

Thinking of Amanda Gorman’s (@amandagorman.bsky.social) “The Hill We Climb”.

An excerpt:

“…when the day comes we step out of the shade aflame and unafraid, the new dawn blooms as we free it, for there is light if only were brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Jesus’ central stated ministry is the lessening of the gaps between the powerful and the powerless, a radical inclusion of those so often left out, an audacious expanding of the table of compassion to the widest, most-diverse swath of humanity.
