Today I learned from librarian chat that snowflakes are clear and so are the hollow shafts of fur on the polar bear. Natural light reflecting from them makes them look white. Polar bears are actually black, which you can see in thinner fur areas when they aren't in direct sunlight.

Yesterday, I turned down a good job offer, for a job I really wanted, as director of a unit in a state university system, one step below executive. So why did I turn it down? 12 days of vacation, no negotiation possible. I am sad and angry for all of the people who have to accept this.

Interesting discussion in a work meeting about DEIA today. 2 main streams. 1) Do grant dollars actually force us in the wrong direction? 2) How do we take action? How do we fight back against institutional inertia?
