If the federal shutdown continues, DSHS will not be able to issue food benefits after Oct 31. What is happening The federal government shut down on Oct.1 and has not yet reopened. If the federal government does not reopen by Oct. 31, DSHS won’t be able to issue food benefits through SNAP or the state Food Assistance Program starting Nov. 1 DSHS will continue to accept new applications, eligibility reviews, and mid-certification re-views, and will address them once federal guidance is received. If you are a client, you should: Continue to submit documents as required Continue to visit DSHS call centers and Community Services Offices Continue to use any food benefits you still have on your EBT card We know this situation is causing stress and uncertainty for families and communities. We will continue to share as much information and support as we can, as soon as we can.
