April 30, 2021 I crossed into Kenya, escaping death in Uganda for being a transgender woman.
I was hunted, hated, and left with no choice but to run for my life.

What I found in Kakuma refugee camp was not safety.
I faced brutal violence, daily threats, and deep neglect just for being who I am.

Yes, Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act (AHA), signed into law in May 2023, is approaching its second anniversary, and the crackdown on LGBTQ+ people continues to escalate. Since its enactment, the law has led to numerous arrests, forced evictions, and increased violence against queer individuals.

This #WomensHistoryMonth, we honor Marsha P. Johnson Black trans activist, Stonewall hero and co-founder of STAR. She fought for LGBTQ+ rights, housing for trans youth and dignity for people with HIV/AIDS. Her legacy lives on in the fight for justice. #MarshaPJohnson

Being trans in a war zone means fighting battles on every front surviving shots, ejection, and erasure. Survival isn’t just about staying alive, it’s about holding on to who you are. And still try to endure this horrible life full of pain and trauma

Surviving as a trans girl and refugee has been a journey of pain, resilience, and hope. I’ve faced violence, rejection, and struggle but I’m still here, still fighting. My story isn’t just mine; it’s for everyone forced to live in the shadows. #transRights #refugee #LGBTIQ #Humanrights
