The famous 'Girl in The Flames' photo from 1995, showing Wem Town Hall on fire and a mysterious little girl stood in the blaze, seemingly unbothered.

The girl in question was actually lifted from a postcard from 1922.

Creepy Hotel Corridors, Part 7 in an occasional series.

This one is from a hostel in New York that I stayed at for a week or so, which was run by nuns. I didn't see a single nun while I was there.

Edwin Landseer's allegedly haunted painting Man Proposes, God Disposes hangs in the exam hall at the University of London. According to myth, a student once committed suicide during exams by stabbing a pencil into their eye, writing "The polar bears made me do it" on their exam paper.

"...a pair of hands gripped the driving wheel & I had to fight for control."

The tales of the Hairy Hands date back to the early 20th century. Victims report a sudden loss of control over their vehicles, and the sensation of a pair of large, hairy hands gripping the steering wheel

‘It would make Chairs, Tables, Trunks & all moveables walk up and down the Rooms. And often come tumble down the stairs, some times like a bowl & other times as if it drew a Chain.’

Creepy hotel corridor I have seen, part 6 in an occasional series.

It's the statue on the right in this one. I wouldn't have been surprised to find it waiting for me in a doorway at some point. Real 'that scene in Beetlejuice' vibes...

The Retreat, by Gemma Fairclough, is the latest from @wildhuntbooks.bsky.social & part of their Northern Weird project. I loved the author's last book (Bear Season), & this one didn't disappoint. An atmosphere of dread runs right through it like a stick of Blackpool rock. I loved it 👻
