I like complicated conversations about rewilding, housing, localism and sustainable transport. Fuelled by rage about the nature crisis. Sustained by all the people doing something about it.
We need a faster, fairer, more predictable and more supportive process for future translocations and reintroduction projects. Nature can bounce back, given a helping hand.

Scotland’s public bodies need to be firmly on the side of nature now.
As climate breakdown accelerates and our ecosystems crack under the pressure, we need all our institutions to act - fairly, but swiftly - in the name of nature.

Community participation - from consultation to meaningful decision making - is integral to rewilding interventions, including species translocations and reintroductions.
But consultation is about understanding impacts and exploring concerns - not giving a veto to those who don’t like change.

3 years to move one family of beavers from farmland in Tayside to Glen Affric - despite a national strategy to grow beaver populations signed by stakeholders across sectors, strong science, and solid community support.
3 years of consultations, community engagement and challenges.

Now there needs to be more support to enable all landowners - large or small; individuals, community groups or organisations - to restore biodiversity.
