It often feels surreal that they’re gone. Hard to explain. Nor would I really ever want you to know how that feels.

I’m grateful that I can sense them with us every September when we spend these precious hours sharing love, encouragement and inspiration with the community. ❤️❤️‍🩹🥹

One woman whose children have since moved on to high school shared that her kids carry fond memories of these encouraging messages when they walked to school every September. We hadn’t considered how we’re creating warm, lasting childhood memories for other families over these years.

Spoke to SO many people—some new to the area who were curious, they’d not seen this before, many others who watch for this every year and were excited this time to catch us in the act (adults and kids alike)! So many who simply walked past extending thanks for doing this for the neighbourhood.

time doesn’t erase love, it just changes how it looks. I can honor them in the way I choose to live now. my story didn’t end when theirs did.

I’m allowed to carry this love with nowhere new to put it. grief will always be part of me — but it’s not all of me. I can say their name and smile through the tears. my grief is valid, no matter how much time has passed.

my worth isn’t measured by how “over it” I seem. grief can live in me and I can still laugh, still dream, still hope. it’s not weakness to still cry years later. I can let joy in without it meaning I’ve let them go.

I don’t have to pretend the ache has gone away. I’m allowed to have days where getting out of bed is the victory love this deep will always leave a mark, and that’s okay. healing doesn’t mean I stop longing for them.
