I was responding to a post wondering why anyone would be surprised or skeptical about a photo showing a hermit crab aloft. I responded from my actual experience observing a type of hermit crab that, when on a tree stump that becomes exposed at low tide, will cross sand to submerge itself again.

I, however, did *not* specify Land hermit crabs in the comment you challenged.

Many species are marine or estuarial, and some, including the ones I grew up around, are never observed aloft. You’re right about their climbing ability. But the people who felt skeptical of a hermit crab photographed aloft are understandable.

Pacific hermit crabs like this can climb trees. Gulf of Mexico hermit crabs, like I grew up with, cannot.

Sanewashing Trump by selectively quoting him out of context to make his critique of UN climate failures sound reasonable and well-intentioned is dishonesty without an upside. Trump’s flex that nations converting to clean energy face ruin is more threat than forecast. Danger, not ease, looms ahead.
