I saw Hozier on Friday and it was an incredibly good experience and I cried a lot. He’s charmingly awkward, but had an impassioned political message before Nina about the Civil Rights movement, shouted out trans rights, hung a progress pride flag on his mic stand after Take Me To Church. /1

Just dumping some of the pieces I’ve been making in the past week—being a working artist is amazing 🩵

Around the lower base is concentric fluting that looks like elongated diamonds or stretched honeycomb. The base has a carved maker’s mark—Mason Bee Pottery. The top view of the previous vase. It has a very tall and narrow neck with a flared mouth. The neck has tight throwing lines down. The base of the neck has delicate concentric fluting to match the base in the previous slide, but it ends in a trimmed line and then is smooth.

So apparently the theme for Target’s pride collection this year is “closeted” because uh…

I’m not sure they recognize the history of being “low-key,” either, especially for Black gay people. I get that it can be a trend, but all this is screaming HEY YOU DON’T WANNA BE SEEN AS *THAT* GAY, RIGHT?
A very bland Target app section for Pride stating “Pride finds are here,” found halfway down the landing page. The Pride page of the Target app, where the first suggested curated style in their collection is “New neutrals: Make a statement, even in low-key hues.” On the ad, a bigger bodied black man is wearing a basic white polo shirt with barely visible rainbow stripes on the sleeve cuffs and collar edges. The next image is a tan tote back with some gentle colorful stripes that cannot be perceived as rainbow in any way. A Target product page for a ceramic mug. The outside of the mug has a wavy bump design, but is entirely white and plain. The inside rim is rainbow. If you were wondering, it’s $8 for this garbage.

This porcelain pot flew off the wheel during trimming and when that happens, my art soul goes full feral vulture and says “WELL NOW WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE WANT”

So now there’s a bug on it where there used to be damage

Working on this sculpture today—it’s almost two feet tall!

Went out to the r/50501 protest in Annapolis today

International Tea Bowl Exhibition reception up near Philadelphia at the Duke Gallery!

Amazing to see (and touch!) all the different pieces and experience a bit of peace and beauty. Glad I got to support my teacher, Xiaosheng Bi, as well!
Inside of the Duke Gallery. The walls are high and white with thick wooden beams. The center of the gallery houses a second open room built to function as a traditional Japanese tea room with paper screen doors, tatami mats, a low table, and a calligraphy scroll. In the rest of the gallery space, white plinths dot the open space and hold ceramic art. The walls are lined with shelves holding rows of tea bowls. The outside of the Duke Gallery at night. The facade is an old gray stone like a castle. The windows are lit up from the inside.

Took out the guts, did all the dental work, and reattached the head today! Hopefully drying out will go smoothly and he’ll be ready to fire soon!

I’m just gonna start existing on here with pictures of my frog sculpture/incense burner that is destined for a noborigama wood firing after Thanksgiving. It’s handbuilt with Laguna Dark Brown clay with English Porcelain eyes!
