here's a sneak peek at the Steppe foodweb, which i recently added to my prehistoric 4X

it's got Mammoths, Sabertooth Cats, and some key domesticable species that shake up the mid/late game 🌾 🐴 🐏 🐺

this week I added UI scaling to Folk Emerging (independent from aspect ratio & resolution). if there's time i hope to later add more text-scaling options for even better accessibility

so far i'm not restricting the aspect ratio, i've tried to make layout work in any arbitrary AR, here are some examples. it works well for the most common setups, but the UI does get a little small in square/tall. that's where the independent UI scaling setting can hopefully help

adding UI scaling to my strategy game (separate from aspect ratio) as an #accessibility setting. feels important in a UI-heavy game like this 🎮

finally got around to making Folk Emerging work in diff resolutions and aspect ratios, e.g. ultra-wide, hyper-tall, super-duper-square, and anything in between!

major tech tree expansion in progress!

i've redone my tutorials to center on step-by-step goals so the player can learn by doing, using nested tooltips for extra info 💬

i've been over-relying on text tutorials that auto pop-up when the player opens a relevant UI panel, which quickly gets overwhelming.

now i'm trying instead to center the tutorial on step-by-step goals so the player can "learn by doing" and use nested tooltips for extra info

there are 2 contexts for the foodweb interface in my prehistoric strategy game:

🍏 Foraging species for Food + bonuses
🌱 Domesticating species, e.g. to use in Farms and Pastures

i've tried to streamline the UI to show only info relevant to the selected context 👇

Infinitely nested tooltips are here! ♾️

Initial playtests have proven that a game as deep as Folk Emerging could really benefit from nested tooltips to help players learn the concepts at their own pace, so I'm super excited to have this working :)

This week my stone age 4X got a foodweb update ♻️

Now the expected population changes for all species in the foodweb are visible at all times so you can better plan around the dynamic ecosystem 📊
