Is this enough to put to bed the idea that people vote for Trump because of economic reasons? The economic outlook is abysmal right now but Trump still enjoys high approval ratings.
People voted for Trump because they are like him - immoral, utterly selfish, and only cares about "owning" enemies.

This is quite interesting. It suggests that maybe vibecession is just a story of sentiment lagging behind economic indicators. Unfortunately the election happened before sentiments caught up to reality.

I feel like this election unleashed something. Like it disinhibited what already existed. Like the explanation for minorities voting for Trump was that they were already conservative in attitude. There was just a strong community norm against it. Now the norm is gone.
