I enjoyed a visit to the small, but interesting, Norris Museum in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, at the weekend. A few items caught my eye, but particularly this very beautiful and poignant medieval brooch and these fabulous Roman faces 😀

This beautiful bridge in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, dates to the 1420’s. It was damaged by Oliver Cromwell and the Roundheads during the Civil War, hence the differing shapes of the arches - the pointed ones are original and the round ones are earlier 18th century rebuilds.

Well, what a strange and wonderful survival this is…a turf maze dating from 1660! 🤩
It sits in the middle of the very lovely village of Hilton, Cambridgeshire, and was made by William Sparrow, a royalist, to commemorate the restoration of Charles II.

The Church of St. Mary, Keysoe, has this really excellent mid-18th century plaque set into the tower wall…I really love how it’s such a personal account and a snapshot in time, compete with brilliant spelling!

These incredible figures, dating to the 19th century and made of walnut, are Bell Jacks and were once up at high level on Columbia Road Market in Bethnal Green.
They’re huge, and very impressive to see ‘in the flesh’ 🤩
