If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life recently, it’s this: nothing — and I mean NOTHING — can be handled in one simple step anymore. Everything takes a phone call.Which turns into three phone calls.Which turns into being transferred.Which turns into being “accidentally disconnected.”Which turns into you starting the whole story over like it’s Groundhog Day.

It’s interesting how some people are more upset about the words I use to talk about cancer than the fact that I actually have cancer. Not the diagnosis.Not the treatments.Not the emotional roller coaster. The words. Apparently, there is a preferred vocabulary when it comes to illness. Certain phrases are acceptable. Others are “too blunt,” “too dark,” or “not positive enough.” Some people want everything wrapped in inspirational language, like cancer is a motivational poster instead of a life-altering experience.

Life has a way of breaking us in moments we never see coming. A loss, a failure, a heartbreak, an unexpected turn — tragedy often arrives without warning and leaves us feeling empty, confused, or defeated. In those moments, it can feel impossible to imagine anything good ever coming from the pain. Yet, time and time again, we witness something remarkable: out of the darkest seasons, beauty can be born.

Every so often, someone will ask why I don’t post political commentary on my blog or across my platforms. In a world where every headline feels urgent and every opinion feels loud, it can seem like silence equals ignorance — like not engaging means you must not be paying attention. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Not speaking publicly about politics doesn’t mean my head is in the sand.
