1. This is Piles Copse, the largest remaining fragment of high-ground temperate rainforest on Dartmoor. It’s a tiny speck of green in a dismal, human-made desert. Prepare yourselves for a story of breathtaking perversity, told in this thread. (There’s a one-page version at the bottom). 🧵

Totally blew some students' minds last week with the fact that Bluetooth was named after King Harald Bluetooth who united the tribes of Denmark into a single kingdom (bc Bluetooth technology connects devices) AND the Bluetooth symbol is a bind rune that combines his initials, H (ᚼ) and B (ᛒ).

Can any law enacted under such circumstances be considered democratically structured?

Sometimes a law is just on its face and unjust in its application. For instance, I have been arrested on a charge of parading without a permit.

I want to share my experience today with Google support, trying to get Gemini (their AI/plagiarism machine) turned off in my Google workspace account. That account is where I personally do all my work communication—I am an editor, and most of my work contracts explicitly ban any use of Generative AI

Does anyone know if Donald Trump ever watched Ferris Bueller's Day Off?

It's a shame this scene didn't stick with him if so.
