This would be fine if he wasn't in the bunk above me

"As an English major, I found Bratz Babyz Save Christmas quite reductive" or something lol

For sure. Knowing your degree is definitely more of a "ah yep, that makes sense" thing. If you had a math degree, I'd be surprised, but it wouldn't really matter

It would be a great bit for you to state your degree before giving a thoughtful take on some obscure, awful kids movie tho

Cracked myself up at the thought of "As a wildlife major, here is the animal I find MOST AMAZING"

But I realized I have seen tiktoks with that exact framing before and I did indeed want to tell those people to shut up

Or at least can be useful. I will say I'm inclined to find your takes a bit more seriously given your education because my mild experience with English (and the requisite literary analytical skills) tells me something about your approach to media criticism, even if it shouldn't be relevant at all

Okay I'm with you. I've certainly been guilty of "as a blank" statements before, but appeals to authority or whatever the fallacy aren't persuasive for opinion-based stuff, or at least shouldn't be

I do think knowing someone's background provides useful context for understanding their takes, though

Speaking of flying squirrels but completely unrelated (genetically), my favorite animals are colugos, aka flying lemurs.

They're not lemurs at all, but they're kind of proto primates in that all primates share a common ancestor with these weirdos before any other mammal on Earth.

There is a spectrum of expertise where stating your qualifications does become useful though, right? Or are you conceptualizing interior design as so accessible that it doesn't require formal expertise to have "good" opinions on the subject

I'm right there with ya! It seems like they're fairly common? There are other similarly sized species in the region too, so you might get lucky with a spot light if you go out at night.

The vibes are good on this one! If that's AI then I'm cooked

It does seem like the etymology is completely unrelated, but one of the made up, totally not real ways to refer to a group of squirrels is, in fact, a scurry

I love these conversations because I also get to learn new things. Meet the Red and White Giant Squirrel of China!

Up to 4ft long from nose to tail. Wild!

Even marmots and groundhogs are considered squirrels! Anything in the Sciuridae family

Exactly. I'm not a squirrel after all. My nut preferences are far more refined

Was just talking with a friend about whether bows in the upper Columbia drainage (e.g., Clark Fork) could revert to steelhead if all the migratory passages were open again! So cool to see this can happen elsewhere

Ah, but you're missing the point. Military intervention AND cuts to USAID both kill people, which is their goal.

This is a picture of a sugar glider. Looks like The Onion needs to hire a gliding mammal specialist to review all future publications. I can offer my services, but I'll caution that I'm not cheap.

Anadromous salmonid propensity for recolonizing streams is what makes me the most optimistic, regardless of dam removal timelines. They came back after total (presumable) basin-wide eradications (e.g., Columbia basalt flows), so as long as there are fish in the Pacific, some will find their way home
