Yes! My church has a connection to a social worker at the local high school. We do backpacks and school supplies in Sept and secret Santa for the high schoolers and their siblings in Dec.

We fought this battle when my kids were in HS 2005-08. District wanted to just buy an off-the-shelf curriculum with excerpts and fill-in-the-blank quizzes. We lost and I pulled my son from that class and had him do independent study.

Land acknowledgements are great. Knowing our bloody history is important. Electing Native politicians is vital! But engaging personally with Native culture *as it is today* is, IMHO, one of the most OVERLOOKED ways to move the needle on systemic injustice and, bonus, you'll love it! /13
