A young lad walked into a shop in the city market uptown St John in 1849 to buy flints. He wasn't happy about the Orange parade rumoured to be coming through the city's Irish Catholic neighborhoods that day. Sensing danger shops closed for the day. The parade commenced.The Catholics laid in wait.
