Dr Sara Ramos Pinto will be a keynote speaker at the Sixth International Symosium on Language and Communication Research at Prince Sultan University, held online 8-9 November 2025.

Her talk will be titled 'To the Verbal and Beyond: A multimodal approach to subtitling'

The 4th CTILS Symposium was held last thursday with talks and discussion in English, Chinese, Italian and Spanish.

Students from our MA programmes provided simultaneous interpreting, translated all the materials related to the presentations and provided live subtitling.

'Clear Shadows' - with integrated and creative subtitles by Dr Ramos Pinto - was screened on Sunday.

In discussion after the film, the audience response to the subtitles was very positive and one person asked if we could have all films subtitled like this, so let's get to work! 🙂

We are very happy to announce that Dr John Li - a distinguished Senior UN Interpreter - has joined our interpreting teaching team.

Dr Li brings a wealth of interpreting experience at the highest levels and will teach simultaneous interpreting on our MA programmes

At COLING 2025 - a key conference in Natural Language Processing - CTILS PhD student Lama Alqurashi received a 'best paper' award for her work on using Large Language Models to study Arabic poetry. 🥳
