Years and years ago I started work on a book about totalitarianism. It had been provoked by reading Hannah Arendt’s The Origins of Totalitarianism during my lunch breaks at AOL, around the time when they believed they had acquired Time-Warner.

Morning #earworm: *Still* the XTC; "Helicopter". I didn't vote for this.

Morning #earworm: XTC still; "Life Begins at the Hop".
November 24, 2025 at 12:50 PM
Morning #earworm: XTC, "Millions". Played last night; hadn't heard it in a very long time.

Morning #earworm: I don't know. It's real, and it's weak. At best it could be late Roxy Music; at worst, maybe the theme from The Golden Child or something.

Morning #earworm: Woke from dreams of class struggle to "California Über Alles" again -- or specifically "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now". Confusing situation with standard chorus and lounge chorus running simultaneously.
November 21, 2025 at 12:37 PM
Morning #earworm: Ray Scott, "The Toy Trumpet". Because I dreamt '30s this morning?
November 20, 2025 at 12:43 PM
Morning #earworm: Renaldo and the Loaf, "Ow! Stew the Red Shoe!" Played a couple weeks ago, same outburst as yesterday's.
November 19, 2025 at 1:17 PM
Morning #earworm: "California Über Alles". I did play it a couple weeks ago but that seems kind of remote.
November 18, 2025 at 1:06 PM
Morning #earworm: John Fahey, "Ann Arbor/Death by Reputation". Played last night.
November 17, 2025 at 1:11 PM
Morning #earworm: Hm; had something but it went away. Wasn't interesting -- unprovoked Beatles or something.
November 16, 2025 at 12:23 PM
Morning #earworm: Lotte Lenya, "Alabama Song". Played last night.
November 15, 2025 at 1:09 PM
Morning #earworm: "Rumbly in My Tumbly". No reason, no excuse.
November 14, 2025 at 1:30 PM
Morning #earworm: some showtune snippet, but I don't know what. Could be from Oklahoma... I don't know Oklahoma.

I'm no fan of the many ill-conceived and stupid applications of "AI" that have been carelessly thrust upon us but I have to object that there is no "AI" thing that is a symptom or disease.
...
“AI Grief Observed”

> AI is the symptom of a broken world. AI is the symptom; and AI is the disease.

I just can’t summarise this essay in a few short and witty words. Just read it. You won’t regret it

Morning #earworm: Modern English, "I Melt With You". Unprovoked.
November 12, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Morning #earworm: "Shake It Up", The Cars. No excuse.
November 11, 2025 at 1:08 PM
Morning #earworm: Yma Sumac, "Caribe Taqui". Played night before last.
November 10, 2025 at 12:42 PM
Morning #earworm: "We Care a Lot". No idea where I picked that up.
November 9, 2025 at 12:30 PM
Morning #earworm: "Mississippi Goddamn". Not heard recently but I mentioned Simone day before yesterday.
November 8, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Morning #earworm: Made-up phrases to start but now shifted into theme from STNG, probably from having watched Star Trek (2007) (aka Star Trek Babies).
November 7, 2025 at 1:32 PM
Morning #earworm: "Redemption Song". Unprovoked, unloved.
November 6, 2025 at 12:36 PM
Morning #earworm: "Narrow Your Eyes" -- unprovoked and hopefully not the start of a lingering TMBG problem.
November 5, 2025 at 12:07 PM
But you have a mobile fone, right? So do I, despite my best resistance. AI is set (and meant) to become a "radical monopoly", without which living a regular human life won't be possible. See Ivan Illich, Tools For Conviviality.

Morning #earworm: A few well-known bars of trumpet that I can't ID.
November 4, 2025 at 12:26 PM
Morning #earworm: Many selections running through the night, but the wheel stopped on "You Always Hurt the One You Love". Which has not been the case.
