In addition to the fact that Medicaid coverage losses will disproportionate impact rural communities which will be devastating to rural communities and providers, the new rural health transformation fund does little for rural hospitals as my colleague @edwincpark.bsky.social explains in this thread.
Thread on highly inadequate and flawed "rural health transformation" fund intended to prevent rural hospitals from closing or cutting services/staff in face of draconian #Medicaid cuts in Senate reconciliation bill. Details from @punchbowlnews.bsky.social here (1/x): punchbowl.news/rural-health...

Georgia’s governor promotes his Medicaid work requirement as a national model for reform.

Yet the program has cost taxpayers more than $86M, three-quarters of which has gone to consultants, and enrolled only 3% of the quarter-million Georgians eligible.

Only 6,500 participants have enrolled in a program that has cost taxpayers more than $86 million — a warning for other states looking to impose restrictions on Medicaid in a second Trump presidency.

This. Work reporting requirements have never been about work. They’re about making it as hard as possible for kids and families to get access to services they need so that they can’t use them.
Imposing or expanding harsh work requirements won’t boost employment; most people who can work already do. But it could take health care & food away from millions of people who get health coverage through #Medicaid & food assistance through #SNAP: www.cbpp.org/blog/taking-...

I spent 13 years in federal civil service and it was some of the most rewarding time of my career. What’s happening now is appalling.
As @skyeperryman.bsky.social said on @msnbc.com, we rely on a professional civil service to make sure our food & water are clean, our country is safe, our medicines are effective, & so much more. Watch here: (1/2) www.youtube.com/shorts/AtgzO...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. proposed that Americans should receive vaccines on different schedules based on their race.

“Now we know that, you know, we should not be giving Black people the same vaccine schedule that’s given to Whites, because their immune system is better than ours,” Kennedy said.

This is the future. The history of Trump is illegal order pulled back followed by slightly less illegal but still illegal order followed by still illegal but constitutionally plausible order eventually rubber stamped by his Supreme Court.
If history is a guide, Spending Freeze 1.0, now dead, will be followed by Spending Freeze 2.0 and maybe Spending Freeze 3.0, each of which will be better written and lawyered than the one before.

Great 🧵. One thing I'm watching/concerned about is that when SCOTUS inevitably rules against some of the crazier/nuttier Trump stuff people will revert back to judicial supremacy & "courts will save us" tropes.
