In arguing against having a Dept of Education, Sen Markwayne Mullin asks:

“What was we ranked in 1979?”

What was we ranked…
Mullin: What were we ranked nationally in math and reading in 1979?

McMahon: We were very low on the totem pole.

Mullin: We were number one in 1979

I can’t speak for anyone else, but this analogy of “Lady Liberty’ held captive, is exactly how I feel about this presidency & administration and what their attempting to do with our rights and freedoms…

The New Yorker captured the feelings perfectly…

MURRAY: Will you allocate the $220m for literacy programs that Congress appropriated?

McMAHON: We're looking at the unallocated dollars to determine which of those programs we can best spend on

MURRAY: Those funds were appropriated. It looks to me like the dept is illegally impounding funding

I don't understand how some folks are unable to see that the illegal disappearing of people is a class issue. The wealthy and well-connected get due process. The rest of us don't. This is part of the oligarchy, not a distraction from it.

The whole premise of the story is that Trump has a plan. He does not. He’s just winging things as he goes along, as sociopaths usually do. And that’s why no one can explain the “plan.” It doesn’t exist.

I completely understand Schumer wanting to avoid a shutdown - they’re destructive, and they harm a lot of folks who don’t deserve it.

What I *don’t* understand is Schumer saying that Dems were unified in opposition only to change his mind a day later. He looks like a jackass.
