The Boston Massacre is a good lesson on propaganda. And angry mob, a small squad of British soldiers. Shots are fired.

The British regulars cite self-defense, but locals consider it a massacre. The latter view takes hold with persistent messaging.

Thomas Gage could have offered a bit of advice to why it's bad to try to convince Americans it's good to have soldiers patrolling their streets.

Not to mention the importance of immigration to the colonies and the later US.

Anyone watching this should take into account the importance of organizing. Then and now, Americans get more done in being able to conduct commerce and supply guidance than they have in fighting. And the Sons of Liberty and the Committees of Correspondence did the most for the Revolution.

If you don't consider the Royal Proclamation of 1763, then you don't consider a significant part of the start of the Revolution.

Because the need for soldiers to enforce it and the taxes needed to pay for them were necessary for this decree.

It's also important to discuss how land-hungry impulses by Americans was fueled by the aristocratic rigidity of Europe. Americans craved land for self-sufficiency. But in North America, that means taking Native land.

I can never thank nhannahjones.bsky.social enough for her work on The 1619 Project. It was a master work that better explained American multi-cultural society and its mono-cultural culture. And how this has always been the flashpoint of our identity. It has contributed to this research and story.

Moreover, it cannot be overstated how much the European Seven Years War was part of the origin of the United States. What we call "The French and Indian War" in the North American theater of the war. And how Americans thought they were entitled to France's North American territory.

It's also important to discuss our attempts to dominate Canada from the outset. And I have long come to respect how Canada's identity is a rejection of "Americanism."

I lament how, still, we think we have a right to claim Canada for our own.

It's a crucial distinction on how you want to set the sort of "tone" for the story being told. Because it determines the language used. It can be subtle, but hold a subconscious power over proceedings.

From a literary perspective, I concur.

Heh. Maybe. And every failure is a learning experience.

A numbers game, of sorts, is still involved "down the line." For the time being, it's not an existential issue or even critical issue. Yet it is something that will eventually figure into things and necessitate more planning in due time.

Again, perhaps. But... I'm looking for some significant changes going into 2026. And adjusting style and format is going to play a part in that. OR NOT. We shall see where things progress in due time. ⏳

And, if nothing else, I consider that one of the most important aspects of twiddling with these projects. Whether they sink or swim, I just hope they're useful as a communal experience. 🐷👍

Mm. Perhaps. But the vignettes - to date - have always been little ways of trying to snag interest. Given I have bigger fish to fry at this point, I realize that I will have to weigh my habit of "visiting" characters against something more prolonged.

But!

Hence why I was philosophical about it. I consider it more of a matter of taking good material and severely misapplying it. At the very least, I've gotten some minor feedback that there was a desire for more action with this piece, despite my own desire to peer into the lived routines of monsters.

Go back even further. The very notion of the "biased liberal media" goes back to Southern governors during the 1950s and 60s in the Civil Rights Movement. They coined the phrase to combat the fact that people across the US and around the world could see with their own eyes what was happening.
