Solidarity with these workers. Atlantic postal workers were out first. I stopped by the line last night on Almon. This is a critical service especially for rural communities. @cupwsttp.bsky.social

The number of unhoused has doubled since last count. The reasons should not surprise anyone- lack of income (including b/c of jobs that do not pay enough) to afford housing available in the market. People can't choose, if they have no options. #nspoli

We remember the 26 men killed at Westray & continue the fight for safe workplaces. « This is a story of incompetence,of mismanagement, bureaucratic bungling, of deceit, of ruthlessness, of cover up, of apathy, of expediency & of cynical interference."

NS minimum wage workers see a small 50 cent increase today to $15.70. Bridging the gap between the cost of living & low-wage employment requires government action. The 1% hst cut will do little. The loss of the carbon rebate for them is significant. #nspoli

But also these voter turn out numbers for the 2021 fed election are not horrible. (Much lower voter turn out in NS last provincial election and municipal elections.) What will happen this time with a very short federal election period.

Thank you, @cupe3912.bsky.social for your endorsement. The universities rely heavily these members to provide critical teaching & research support, with zero job security & unfair wages that certainly do not match the education & experience for these positions. #canlab

Friends, I am super excited to announce that I have decided to run for President of CUPE Nova Scotia. I have spent my life fighting for economic and social justice. After 17 years at CCPA-NS I deeply understand the issues. Given everything that is happening, unions are more important than ever.

One mistake away from homelessness. Our safety net is in tatters. It does not have to be this way. Too many continue to believe that a generous system of social support creates dependency. Rather, targeted miserly programs that remove people’s dignity traps them.

It is 9:50 am in #halifax on the first working day back for many. Not much longer on the East Coast for these CEOs to ‘earn’ what the average Cdn worker EARNS in a year. Nothing justifies this level of inequality.

We have so many gaps to fill in our public systems, but I am grateful for them and the people working within them. My teen was at Halifax’s wonderful IWK children’s hospital for a fracture and had a X-ray, MRI and cast within 90 minutes. When the system works it is wonderful! #publicHealthCare

So much for evidence-based decision-making. The new Minister of the new NS Department of Opportunities and Social Development doesn’t need any help-they have it handled. www.cbc.ca/player/play/...
