In the end, Operation CRUSADER forestalled the Axis attack on Tobruk by 3 days. Ironically, it was almost on the day of the planned attack that the breakout commenced. Nevertheless, the Axis planning was not wasted. The assault planes were dusted off seven months later, and executed with success.
