I am not taking questions at this time.

Today’s favourite #warart comes from Italy where propaganda postcard artists clearly didn’t have access to pictures of Royal Navy vessels.

Where would the world be if Nazis and fascists had figured that one out?

So we should reinforce their beliefs.

Just found this on Ebay and I do rather like it.

The Baltimore had a troubled entry into service in the Mediterranean theatre, like pretty much all US types. A major issue was the availability of spares and consumable items such as washers.

Very nice and clear shot of a 21 S.A.A.F. Squadron Martin Baltimore light bomber undergoing briefing, most likely in North Africa in 1943.

Facebook, South Africans in World War 2.

Let's not move goal posts please and address one issue at the time? The point was made about tyres. The study shows that this is AT WORST a marginal problem. Can we maybe agree on that and then move on to the next question?

If you have more recent/better quality info than this, I would love a link.

Morning!

In which Lidell Hart manages to be quite right and totally wrong at the same time. A peculiar skill, perfected by the British newspaper columnist class at the height of their powers.

The US-delivered guns were modernised for motorised vehicle towing. The Tunis-guns (their actual nickname) were not, they had wooden wheels for horse-drawing.

After the reconquest of Cyrenaica in January 1942, 25-pdr guns were formally added to ToRs, initially in the recce units as well. Later this expanded considerably, as large stocks of ammunition and many guns had been captured during the Gazala battles and at Tobruk.

The Germans used a number of British guns in their arsenal when captured. They had a soft spot for the 2-pdr portee, as it filled a tactical gap for them, particularly in the recce units.
