Starting my Fourth Chapter in the Book of My Life.
Chap 1. Born and reared in New England, mostly.

Chap 3. Wife and Mum. Itinerant volunteer.
Chap 4. New Adventures at 50.
I love my adopted city. These blackberry brambles are starting to ripen. Often found along walk paths, people are allowed to come and pick if they want.

Anyone doing a quick Library of Congress check?
NEW: NSF confirmed that they fired 168 employees today, out of their staff of ~1,500 feds.

This includes some people who'd finished their 1-year probationary periods, which were extended to 2-years last month without explanation. More to come.

has anyone checked on the Library of Congress lately? Is it still functional? Are they still getting paid?

Pondering these questions, considering the most prevalent search engines seem to be infected with AI, feeding themselves garbage, a la a bunch of tiny ouroboros chainmailed together

Found that Brussels sprouts are smaller and more tender here, between blueberry and grape sized. Never in my 50 years on this earth would I predict that they would be my favorite vegetable.

Finally done. In my defense, I was setting up a house & fam in a foreign country. When I started, daily temps were mild, so the urgency wasn't there. This morning, howling winds, near 0°C temps, and rain lit a fire under my ass. Yea! Kid's ears won't fall off on her way to school. Knitting U1

#learndutch #Utrecht libraries here have cafes that serve delicious martinis, to aid in the study of beginner Dutch. The server was very gracious to help with some pronunciations!

Does anyone know the flavors of schuimpjes? Specifically, the marshmallowy ones? We found the candies in a bag of Kruidnoten from Plus, incredibly sweet with hints of flavor we can't place. Bedankt!

Officially out of the temporary apartment and slowly settling in the perm place. Got "snow" today! Internet connection is finally stable and utilities settled. Found amazing hot pot last night. This is the fifth major move of my life, and is the one that has made me the happiest ever.

After 7 weeks on terra firma, we are starting to hit our stride. Apartment acquired, appointments with immigration and local registration tomorrow, enrolling kid in school. Yet to do: buy bikes, find doctors, open EU bank accounts, enroll in Dutch lessons.

First post - why not make it my WIP?!
Daughter 11yo picked out yarn. Soon to be hat weather here, so am glad she asked for something simple to ease me back into knitting.
