A week after a new sectional was brought into the VP residence. Coincidence?
November 22, 2025 at 7:11 AM
Yeah, it still needs planed after, so it’s just a “before” video that he can point at with whatever finger survives to explain how it happened.

I didn’t notice until the 10th loop that the “fence” is just a clamped board. There are about 5 catastrophic things I could see happening here that could be anything from a lot of stitches to a whole hand, to a blade in a sternum. I don’t even want to guess the most likely failure to occur first.

I like those a lot. Great job!

I do it in sketch up & measure cuts by setting the angled piece on a flat plane & measuring under & over where the material sticks out. I practice the cuts on an oversized, squared piece in sketch up to write the steps of how to hold & turn the piece between cuts to end up with correct dimensions.5/

To see if your angles come out right.

Now for the material itself, assuming the leg is not tapered yet, your minimum material length is A/B* thickness of leg * 2 because you have to cut off a top and bottom chunk.

Easier to just 3D model, make the piece way longer, draw the lines & measure. 4/

Otherwise, you can can do rise (B) divided by run (A) and click the Tan-1 to get your degrees. That matters for tool settings miter saw/sled. You’ll be using that degree measurement or 90 minus that measurement set your angles for cuts. I recommend doing this in a digital program or piece 3/

A is where inside of the leg touches the ground draw a line to where a plumb bomb would touch the floor from the inside top of the leg. Between A and B, your angle is 90*, 2 measurements of length and that degree are enough to plug into an internet calculator. 2/
November 14, 2025 at 11:01 PM
I’m assuming, since the legs look to be 45 degrees rotated compared to the top, you’re using the same angle for rake and splay?

Think of a triangle where the length of the inside face of the leg is your C measurement, your B is floor to top of leg, your A 1/

Looks great! Nice little touches like the taper on the legs, while avoiding looking too fiddly. Great job!

Careful with the glue joints when you’re doing it. Heat is the way a lot of glue is intended to be weakened for disassembly. I doubt it will be an issue, but just leave it flat on a table, heat it up until the end of the sticker lifts easily with light pressure from whatever lever you’re using.
November 12, 2025 at 1:17 AM
Yeah, heat gun is slightly better, but a blow dryer works fine in a pinch, I’ve done what you are trying to do with stickers and heat gun dozens of times. Works like a charm.

Look up the replacement for a DeWalt jobsite saw, if they are 5/8 as well. I think the twist and thickness of the arbor nut is probably common.
