Our felines love snow days bc we feed the birds on these days, offering them veritable cat television! #kansascity #catsofbluesky #birdwatching

Received my 2nd everaper wasp sting last Monday. It hurt for an hour and then I forgot about it. Last night the sting started itching after 8 days of no symptoms. Turns out this is actually a thing! Now I'm hesitant to go check nest boxes bc I dont know if this means I've developed an allergy.

Noaa!

(Both to the blizzard warning, and to the much larger threat to our fave agency)

Holy#$! I knew it was bad, but hadn't been paying close attention from my urban location. (Haven't lived in rural KS since 1996). My mom has been wanting to get rid of eastern red cedars around their property. I think I have a new fire lit under me! (Source theprairieproject.org )

What the ever-lovin'-eff is the Kansas legislature thinking? (I know, I know, this is far from their worst bill in 2025, but this is fucking with wild animals) #Kansas #Raccoons

KC broke a 90-ish-year-old record low temp today. It was so cold we brought goatie in for the night. Actually, she's still in, so one of us has to work in the kitchen today. Yes, she's very good about using her giant "litter box," for those wondering about this aspect of indoor livestock keeping.

1/4 As Kansans, who have some of the country's highest home insurance rates as a percentage of home value, we need to be concerned about what happens elsewhere.

"Ishita Sen, a professor at Harvard, has found that after insurance companies suffer big losses in states that are tightly regulated,

Started new set of plants in my miracle grow device experiment in our built-in kitschy plant cabinet (with doors to keep plant-gnawing felines out!) Basil I started from grocery store specimen, grew on the front porch all summer. It provides more than enough snippets for our HH!

Another video of our visitor. It watched feeder birds for about 2 hours, but never made any attempts. #kansascity #kansas #blizzard #wildlife

... one not-so-harmless predator watching feeder birds during the blizzard. We have *never* had one in our very urban yard, so this is quite the big deal! (I work with raptor geniuses, but am not one myself. Immature Cooper's?)

We don't regularly feed, but with a blizzard heading this way, we've filled the feeders. Note our unraked leaves left for our invertebrate friends!

Crabstopher Walken has been really active since emerging from molt recently. I think we've now had him for about 10 years, the last survivor of 5 we rescued after an event where they were being "raced." I felt bad for them. We don't handle him. He's had enough trauma, right? #hermitcrabs

Brace for #NYEGoat pics. When she comes inside I get shutter happy. (Yes, she actually has a shaving-filled shallow 3x6ish plastic pan for peeing & understands we wish her to use it. Poop is NBD, dry & odorless, & we just sweep it up.) I know. We are childless goat peeps, ruining America.

Someone just literally curled her lip at my proffered indoor-raised hydroponic greens (flehmen response). So onto her wide, winter-fuzzy back they go. She's hanging out indoors tonight bc of NYE mayhem. She does not like fireworks and effing gunfire. Neither do we... #goats #goatsofbluesky
