Speaking of King's Field, the doujin group Nekomiminokakera created a demo for a game of this type. It's unfinished so it's more of a walking sim, but the art is stand-out.

i also like the games daisuki teddy, hxh minna tomodachi daisakusen (actually pretty great), harvest moon more friends of mineral town, mother 3, black matrix 00, klonoa, it goes on and on...
but ive played nearly every rpg on the gba, at least. that is my gamer pride.

that is to say that we often think of pinocchio as a beautiful story about becoming human but it really about how children are lazy miscreants that need to be tormented in order to develop a moral fiber.
tezuka actually did a visually disney-esque manga adaptation with the original ending.
The end of osamu tezuka's pinnochio manga where he sticks to the original ending-- the one published in 1881-- where the wooden boy is hung from a tree until dead. it's honestly pretty cruel. yes pinocchio was a little awful clown and this is an old story meant to dish out lessons, but finger wagging in such a fire and brimstone fashion doesnt sit well with me. of course there is cultural context, but i cant help but feel like the current interpretations lean into a much kinder reading. from the ending of the original publishing, although it is a bit gruesome: "A tempestuous northerly wind began to blow and roar angrily, and it beat the poor puppet from side to side, making him swing violently, like the clatter of a bell ringing for a wedding. And the swinging gave him atrocious spasms...His breath failed him and he could say no more. He shut his eyes, opened his mouth, stretched his legs, gave a long shudder, and hung stiff and insensible." not to be cinema sins over here, but if he's made of wood, he would be fine, wouldn't he? they wished to inflict punishment on him somehow.... maybe a fireplace would work better. this was in a children's magazine because that's just how italians rolled back then.
