Speaking of King's Field, the doujin group Nekomiminokakera created a demo for a game of this type. It's unfinished so it's more of a walking sim, but the art is stand-out.

but ive played nearly every rpg on the gba, at least. that is my gamer pride.

hamtaro ham ham heartbreak. its the best hamtaro game.... harmony, an angey hamster of pure white, says "well... teehee... give it your best. pitter along now." i think its a fun adventure game everyone should play. from Atelier Marie, Elie & Anis: Soyokaze kara no Dengon Anis and Elie are performing alchemy to make lamp. yata~ this is actually a pretty great entry, you can have any combinations of two of the three alchemists working at a time. they all have their own strengths and weaknesses. i found it very charming and a great way to condense the game for handheld. from summon night swordcraft story 2. arno, a summon beast of indeterminate gender, joyously announces "Yes! You're going to forge your womanhood!" everybody must play these games now. they are so funny and cute. also, playing as a girl affords you the funnier dialogues, in my opinion....take that hammer and FORGE YOUR WOMANHOOD! from kawaii petshop monogatari 3!!! thats right, theyre are three of them!!! rommy the dog is with his julie-chan... i forfeit no details other than that... may you be surprised by yourself... anyhow, these are really excellent games about running a KAWAII petshop. you can catch animals like dogs and cats but also turtles and birds and train them because its an RPG! you can run them in competitions and the like. its a very feature rich game i totally recommend.

that is to say that we often think of pinocchio as a beautiful story about becoming human but it really about how children are lazy miscreants that need to be tormented in order to develop a moral fiber.
tezuka actually did a visually disney-esque manga adaptation with the original ending.
The end of osamu tezuka's pinnochio manga where he sticks to the original ending-- the one published in 1881-- where the wooden boy is hung from a tree until dead. it's honestly pretty cruel. yes pinocchio was a little awful clown and this is an old story meant to dish out lessons, but finger wagging in such a fire and brimstone fashion doesnt sit well with me. of course there is cultural context, but i cant help but feel like the current interpretations lean into a much kinder reading. from the ending of the original publishing, although it is a bit gruesome: "A tempestuous northerly wind began to blow and roar angrily, and it beat the poor puppet from side to side, making him swing violently, like the clatter of a bell ringing for a wedding. And the swinging gave him atrocious spasms...His breath failed him and he could say no more. He shut his eyes, opened his mouth, stretched his legs, gave a long shudder, and hung stiff and insensible." not to be cinema sins over here, but if he's made of wood, he would be fine, wouldn't he? they wished to inflict punishment on him somehow.... maybe a fireplace would work better. this was in a children's magazine because that's just how italians rolled back then.
