The 'liberalism bad, I want muh real socialism back' mantra so beloved of the internet will always arrive back at Starmerism no matter how many red flags it drapes itself in, because it comes with zero understanding of what either socialism or liberalism are or why anyone was interested in them

Rogue One massively benefits from the fact its 3rd act is great so no one remembers the first two are completely forgettable

To be fair, that's basically what happened to GM during 2008.

That's honestly probably a good transition point because it saw the end of the Spanish Empire in the Americas (for all intents and purposes) and the consolidation of British control over the Indian subcontinent.

Ed is wrong in absolute, hyper-dimensional ways. He misinforms his audience so bad that they live in a reality where models exist in a 2022 state, so they're constantly confused as to why it seems that AI is everywhere, since no one must use it. One of the WORST to ever do it.

Unions, famously uncaring and unaware if a given worker is part of them or not.

John Yoo figured it out? Yoo? This is a real low point. Yeah, this on hurts.

Honestly, You can also see this phenomenon on a larger scale (and over a larger time period) with regards to International Law and countries going "how far you expect us to do anything"

It's got a lot of manic "Jimmy is moving away in three weeks so we have to wrap this campaign up" TTRPG energy

There is a great fanfic about a group of W-Y scientists trying to weaponize a xenomorph safely, and when they reasonably find there is no sane way to do that it goes sideways because the executive overseeing them goes: "Well, we can't have nothing, let's stuff and mount it as a gift for the CEO"

It was Guilliman and the High Lords (aka the leaders of the various elements of the Imperial Bureaucracy), but mostly Guilliman by virtue of the fact his legion was still *mostly* intact and everyone else's wasn't.

There is a fun bit in the Sisters codices where it implies the Order of the Sacred Rose basically coup'd a bunch of the local administrations in the Nihilus and are now directly ruling a bunch of fortress worlds. But stuff like that is few and far between

It is very funny how basically all the depictions of the Imperium Nihilus are basically "exactly like the rest of the Imperium (please ignore all the ways this literally can't be the case) or "everyone's dead jim" with no in-between

The issue with New Hampshire is they get paid in expired dairy queen coupons. The size is hilarious though.

Yeah, a lot of it comes down to the fact Brooks is a crypto-Reformer "over reliance on modern technology makes soldiers soft" Guy and everything flows from that. There are ways you can do something like Yonkers and have it work, but as depicted it makes everyone involved look terminally incompetent
August 18, 2025 at 2:13 PM
The Battle of Yonkers only works in the book because World War Z zombies are magically immune to overpressure yeah

America, at least, has a normalized spam, scams, fraud, child exploitation, and supremacism society. Guess what forms of social participation are going to get automated and scaled?
