Also haiiii Hi birdyyy! I definitely do think these QnA sections should be more common in personal sites! It's a little place where visitors can have their voice heard even if the website is yours, and the best part is that it'll all go through you anyways: What appears to other people is a whitelist, just questions you've decided to answer, so you don't risk evil content popping up on your site, like could happen with an unmoderated an unrestricted Comments section (In fact, the oldest version of my blog had a comments section in which I had to approve any comment because I didn't want to risk terrible comments showing up unrestricted.) Also... since I can go months and months without posting anything to my blog (a problem which is VERY common among these personal sites,) leaving the possibility open for friends and strangers to send me things means I can get a little spark of inspiration to write stuff, even if it's short, like I'm doing now, and that's really nice! I don't get things in my inbox that often, but it's always a delight when I do. This site is under the radar enough that I don't really get attacks, it only happened once with someone trying to exploit SQL injections, I think, which didn't work. There is a lot of jank here, I implemented this system ages ago, and I never rewrote it like I did with my blog, I still need to type in HTML manually, unlike with the blog which works with Markdown, though it is nice that I get notified for these and have a nice little graphical interface to write responses, that's through the little plugin I wrote for Plasma some months ago. I'm in the middle of rewriting my whole website again, better, cleaner, lighter, and hopefully less empty, so I'll give the ask box the upgrade it needs. But they're really not that difficult to implement at all! You just need a form, somewhere to store your questions, and some way to answer them and have them appear on the site. This currently works with PHP and an SQL database for this site, but I'm hoping to switch to a less exploitable system in the future. So, yeah! It'll be nice to see more QnA sections pop up in these sites, a couple of friends have them on theirs, too, like Chai. If you implement one, I'll be sure to send a little something! ^-^
