When you know that random deaths of seemingly random characters at the begging will not cause strong emotional reaction other than creating a small amount of shock value, you can use it for example for humor! Like they did in James Gunn Suicide Squad

That what separates for me the way Gantz O treats the deaths of side characters by establishing their personality and hopes even just a little and the abrupt deaths of side characters at the beginning of Hell's Paradise (I still enjoyed the show though)
